Matchbook Review: Sports Betting, Free Bets and Bonuses
Matchbook online betting service provides its customers with a range of sports markets available to bet on using free bets, odds boost and other bonus campaigns, but we can see that the highlights on the site are predominantly horse racing, greyhound racing, and football. Rugby and American football take up the position for the other popular sports. The horse and greyhound races are fully covered with events from all over the UK and Ireland available, with quick links to the next live races easily accessible. Football is the other popular sport available at the Matchbook online betting exchange with all the top European leagues available, as well as a selection of the bigger leagues from around the world from countries such as Japan and Brazil. These top sports on the site are also heavily promoted via the homepage promotional banners. We can see that they are pushing various British and Irish horse racing events, the NFL from America, and top European football tournaments; the Champions League and the Europa League.
Due to the site being exchange-based, the odds and margins are therefore dictated by the punters themselves. However, we can see by looking at both of the average margins for live and pre-live events that the site sits above for most popular sports. Pre-live margins for football can be found anywhere between 2.4-8.4% and around 5.7-6.9% for American football. We looked into the Europa League events during our research and found the pre-live margins to be above average at 5.93%. Compared to other sportsbooks online, this does lack value as most other competitors in the online betting industry offer better odds with Betfred providing the best margins at 3.48%, and other sites such as 888sport offering 4.15% and Coral offering slightly better value with 5.74%. Of course, we can expect to see more fluctuations in the margins at Matchbook due to the site being a customer-driven exchange, and so the odds will cover a larger range than fixed-odds sites such as Betfred and Coral, for example.
During live events we observed some reasonable margins throughout many of the football events, such as 7.2% during matches in the English Championship football league and 6.08% during the Champions League. Again, if we compare these margins during live events against their competitors in the online betting industry then we can prove that they do in fact offer some value. The margins during live Championship events are exceeded by Betfred once again with 5.62% and 888sport with 6.62%, whilst Matchbook is offering better value than the likes of Ladbrokes with 8.23% and Coral with 8.46%. If we look at one of the most popular sporting events in the online betting world, the Champions League, then Matchbook comes out with reasonable margins and betting value yet again. In comparison to the big names of the online betting industry, their 6.08% margin is a lot less than the 9.28% and 8.81% from Ladbrokes and Coral. Betfred comes out on top yet again with 5.88%, but Matchbook does offer better value than Bwin in this area which is a positive sign.
All in all, our Matchbook review clearly signifies that the site only provides a small range of pre-live and live markets on the exchange, and it’s definitely not as detailed as the majority of the fixed-odds sites. The number of pre-live markets consisted of 1 for horse racing, 5 for rugby union, 26 for football, and American football had a total of 32 pre-live markets. The live markets were few and far between with only football offering any sort of live betting options with 15 markets open to players to bet on with either their own funds or a no deposit bonus and free bets.
Statistics & Results at Matchbook
This site is, first and foremost, a betting exchange and so you would expect to see some form of statistics section to help punters out with their betting. However, there is no sign of any statistics being offered at all, even after you enter the site with your Matchbook login details. There is a sign of hope though as there is a live data widget in place courtesy of BetGenius. The BetGenius widget provides customers with live up-to-date information on sporting events with all the action, in-play statistics, latest scores, commentary, team line-ups, and all the news and updates from each of the sporting events.
This type of information is essential when making in-play bets, even while betting with no deposit bonus and free bets, and although they don’t offer much in terms of in-play markets, apart from football, this does at least give the punters something to base their bets on. There is nothing available in regards to looking up past results, so it looks like the only data on this online betting site is related to the in-play events. We believe that bookmakers should provide results of sporting events to help players place the offered no deposit bonuses and free bets right. The Insights section of the site does provide some useful information on betting previews and tips, as does the Matchbook podcast, if you find that type of thing useful. This area of the site is very much like an online Matchbook magazine for betting information and at least customers, even those seeking to just maximize their winnings from free bets and no deposit bonus offers, can find some guidance on value bets and future betting tips.
- In-play statistics
- Results not available
The Matchbook online betting site does not offer any type of free bets or no deposit bonuses to its customers but there are various bonus deals available throughout the site, from sign-up bonus deals to guaranteed best odds to casino bonuses. All of these bonus offers are available on desktop or through their dedicated mobile betting app. To add extra value to our Matchbook review, we’ll be taking a look through their bonus campaigns and explaining how each bonus works and how you can best take advantage of bonus deals to boost your online betting bankroll.
First up is the cash out option which has fast become one of the most popular online betting features available to punters over the last few years, though might not be available when using free bets, no deposit bonuses and other bonus campaigns. Cash out amounts are all based on liquidity within the current market, so you might see a “low liquidity” message and this means that there is not enough money on that specific event to offer you a cash out amount. If you can cash out then there will be a cash amount displayed next to your bet selection. However, be warned that this amount can change quickly due to the fast-moving nature of the Matchbook exchange. You might find that your cash out request is often rejected due to movement in the market, so you’ll have to wait until a new cash out amount is offered. Lastly, all in-play markets at the Matchbook betting site will provide cash out options provided the liquidity is there, plus you must be logged in with your Matchbook login details to access the cash out feature at all times. And always remember, while there are markets that are eligible for cash out, free bet stakes and no deposit bonus funds are not included in any returns.

The website is dominantly based around the Matchbook exchange, however, there are other betting experiences to be enjoyed in the Matchbook Casino with an extra collection of live casino games to play as well. Various bonus deals can be found related to the casino site with welcome bonuses and loyalty-based deals for existing customers, so make sure that you are logged into the site with your Matchbook login details to find all of the existing customer deals, sometimes including free bets and no deposit bonuses.
Risk Free £10 Bet
All new players are entitled to take up the Risk Free £10 Bet offer with up to £10 available for those who register an account and meet the requirements of the promotion. You need to make a deposit and place an initial bet on any of the markets available on the site within seven days of registering your account, there is no requirement for a Matchbook bonus code to be entered either. If the bet loses, you will be rewarded with a bonus amount of up to £10. The only major restrictions placed on this bonus is that you cannot use the following deposit methods: Neteller, PaysafeCard, and Skrill. Additionally, you will be required to wager your bonus amount 1x with minimum odds of 2.0 to make the money withdrawable. For example, if you receive £10 in bonus then you can either place 1 x £10 bet or 10 x £1 bets to clear the money, just ensure that each bet selection is at odds of 2.0 or more.
Horse Racing Odds Comparison
Matchbook is offering the best odds guaranteed on all horse race events with odds based on Industry SP’s acquired from the Racing Post. It’s claimed that placing your bets at this site will give you bigger returns than many of the other leading competitors.
Champions League Odds Comparison
Placing your Champions League bets here can also create bigger returns than many of the other leading online competitors. For example, backing Juventus to win the Champions League at Matchbook could return an extra £100 than if you backed the same bet on Skybet and PaddyPower.
100% Welcome Bonus
New players are eligible to claim the Matchbook Casino new player bonus with a 100% match deposit and multiple free spins available. The bigger the deposit, the more spins you receive with a £100 deposit giving you a total of a £100 bonus and 100 spins. The wagering requirements are 35x and a handful of the slot games are restricted when it comes to the wagering contribution rules.
30% Starburst Slot Bonus
Existing customers who enjoy playing slots will find some value in this promotion with an extra £30 in free spins available. The bonus requirements are tailored more towards the high stakes as a minimum deposit of £100 is required to receive the extra £30. Also, each spin will be worth a maximum of £3 and there is a 30x wagering requirement set to the bonus before you can make a withdrawal of any winnings.
Matchbook Payment Methods
Banking is very limited compared to its competitors with only a handful of options available. In terms of making deposits, the obvious bank card options of Mastercard and Visa are available and then you’ve only got the option of three different e-wallets: Neteller, Paysafecard, and Skrill. The option to use a bank wire transfer is also available but this might come with extra fees which we will explain later on. The choice when withdrawing funds from your Matchbook account is also limited and you will usually be required to use the same method from which you made your deposit. The only method that does not allow withdrawals is the Paysafecard option, all of the other methods available for deposits can be made for withdrawals as well. That said always keep in mind that using some of these methods to deposit will void your free bet money or no deposit bonuses.
Withdrawal Time Frames
Withdrawal processing times look to be in and around the industry standard. Officially, the website states that your money will be processed and sent to your personal bank account or e-wallet within 3-5 days. One positive from the withdrawal process is that the initial withdrawal requests are handled by the Matchbook banking team within six hours, so this helps to keep things moving along and removes the potential of any unnecessary delays. Another plus point here is that Matchbook does not charge any fees against customers withdrawing their money. Any fees that might coincide with banking transactions are absorbed by the company as part of their customer service.
Next, we’ll be looking into the limits of the banking transactions to and from the Matchbook site, as well as the potential of any service fees being charged as well. If you’re using the bank card option then your minimum amount for depositing money is £10, and there is no maximum withdrawal amount set in the terms and conditions. If you decide to use the bank wire transfer option then the minimum deposit required is £1000 with a minimum withdrawal limit of £500. Be warned that you will be charged £35 if you make a withdrawal request under £2000 when making a bank wire transfer. If you prefer to use the e-wallet option then Skrill and Neteller both allow £10 minimum deposits with a minimum withdrawal of £30 to Skrill and £10 to Neteller. The Paysafecard option provides the smallest deposit on the site with a £5 requirement, however, as we mentioned earlier, you will need to find an alternative option if you want to withdraw your money as Paysafecard is only a one-way deposit banking method.
Licenses held by Matchbook
Matchbook is a fully licensed and regulated betting exchange and casino. The company holds two online betting licenses with the Alderney and the UK gambling commissions, and these are clearly displayed at the bottom of the homepage. The UKGC license was issued back in 2004 under the name Triplebet Limited with the license number: 394504. The address connected to the license is based in Alderney and this is where the Matchbook headquarters can be located: Inchalla, Le Val, GY9 3UL. The UKGC and Alderney license allows customers with Matchbook login details to enjoy the following betting activities: Remote, Betting Intermediary, Casino, and Pool betting. Our research also shows us that the Triplebet Limited company has a current application in progress for Remote and General betting; standard and virtual events. Due to the company not having any current sanctions or legal actions against their name, it’s only a matter of time before this new betting license extension gets granted. This will allow the Matchbook brand to improve their desktop and mobile app betting services and bring new betting experiences along with new no deposit casino offers to their paying customers.
Customer Support at Matchbook
Matchbook support is covered by telephone, email, and live chat but it should be said that these are not 24/7 options. The support team working hours run from 8am to 1am so there will be a period of time where you will not be able to get any assistance. During those working hours, the team are reasonably responsive with a live chat operative responding within 1 minute, although it did take them 2 minutes to respond when we asked them if there were any free bets or no deposit bonuses available to test out the site. Emails get an instant automated response and the team will then reply as soon as possible depending on how technical your request is, which could be anything from simple issues with your Matchbook login details to bonus and freebet requirement queries.
In order to gain a better insight into the competence of the Matchbook support team, we sent a couple of emails asking them questions about the site and the services that they provide, the answers were quite enlightening:
Firstly, we asked them why their margins were so high in comparison to the other sites and if they could be adjusted for loyal customers. They responded with “Matchbook is a peer-to-peer betting exchange designed for smart bettors who want more value. Offering deep liquidity and low Matchbook commission rates, Matchbook returns maximum value to bettors.” This is fair enough and explains the overall reasoning as to why the Matchbook brand started out. They also added the following points, “Odds are generated by the customers and not Matchbook, as we are an exchange. Also, as we are an exchange and not a sportsbook we do not offer price boosts.” So the odds are dependant on the customers using the exchange and there is no possibility of giving better odds to loyal customers.
Next, we asked them if we could use bitcoin for withdrawals and they replied with “We don’t accept cryptocurrencies. We do accept VISA, MasterCard, Skrill, Neteller, PaySafeCard and BankWire.” As expected, there is not much movement with their banking section and they only provide the standard options.
Lastly, we wanted to find out if there were any free bets or no deposit bonuses available to test out the site, they came back with “All the freebets and no deposit bonuses are available on this link: https://www.matchbook.com/promotions/exchange.” We double-checked the page and there is no sign of a free bet or a no deposit bonus anywhere on the site, deposits are always required.
All in all, the Matchbook customer support team are quick to reply to questions and queries, however, the information given back to us was always short and lacked that personal touch. A little more commitment to providing full and useful answers as well as some no deposit bonuses and freebets offers would go a long way in keeping customers satisfied in this case.
